Professional trajectory

My professional goals have been to advance engineering education research and improve the lives of researchers.

I have been helping to lead this field for almost two decades. One major milestone in my involvement in this field began in 2004 when I helped to launch the NSF-funded project Rigorous Research in Engineering Education.

In 2006, I moved to the School of Engineering Education at Purdue and have been honored to be a part of the creation of the PhD program in Engineering Education.

Since 2018, I have hosted the Engineering Education Research Briefs podcasts. In Research Briefs, I speak with engineering education researchers about what their lives are like, what they are finding out, and how their research is being used. Subscribe at apple podcasts or Spotify or listen on the Purdue Engineering Education page.

I plan to retire from Purdue in 2023, but will continue to be involved in nurturing the next generation of leaders in this field. I also will continue to consult on topics related to learning and teaching in STEM.
